MATTAPOISETT — Superintendent of Schools Michael S. Nelson, Sippican Elementary School Principal Lynn Dessert and Assistant Principal Greg Thomas are pleased to announce that Sippican Elementary hosted a “Popsicles with the Principals” event as an opportunity for the community to meet the new school leadership team ahead of the new school year.
On Aug. 23, Principal Dessert and Assistant Principal Thomas introduced themselves to Sippican families by treating them with popsicles.
Principal Dessert joins Sippican School from Dighton Elementary School, where she has served as Principal and Title I Director in the Dighton Rehoboth Regional District since 2017. Her tenure at Dighton was characterized by a strong emphasis on student-centered decision-making, collaborative management, and implementing evidence-based practices to drive instructional improvement.
Gregory Thomas joins Sippican School from Middleborough Public Schools, where he was the assistant principal at Henry B. Burkland Elementary School since 2020. At Henry B. Burkland Elementary School, he devoted his time to improving student behavior via restorative practices, collaborative problem solving and mediation. From 2018-2020, Thomas was the principal of John T. Nichols Middle School in Middleborough,and led a faculty and staff of about 80 people, working to create a culture of inclusion, accountability, and willingness to take risks for the betterment of over 800 students.He was the assistant principal at John T. Nichols Middle School from 2015-2018.
“We had a blast welcoming back our amazing students and staff at the Back-to-School Popsicle Party,” said Principal Dessert. “It was a wonderful way to kick off the new school year, full of smiles, laughter and of course, popsicles! A huge thank you to everyone who came out to join the fun – we couldn’t have asked for a better start. We’re excited for a fantastic year ahead!”
Principal Dessert and Assistant Principal Thomas will also be present and able to meet families at the Sippican Elementary Open House, which will take place on Aug. 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Old Hammondtown School also held a similar event to welcome its new Principal Stephanie Wells on Aug. 14.
