ARLINGTON — Chief Julie Flaherty is pleased to welcome three new officers to the Arlington Police Department.

Officers Meredith Gallagher, Kyle Lewis, and Alex Divito were officially sworn in on Thursday, Aug. 1, after graduating from the Municipal Police Training Committee’s Lynnfield Police Academy on Monday, July 29.

All three officers attended Arlington Schools.

Officer Gallagher attended UMass Amherst and received her master’s degree from Fitchburg State University.

Officer Lewis worked as a communications dispatcher for Arlington Police and Fire before entering the academy.

Officer Divito received his bachelor’s degree from Rivier University.

The 20-week Recruit Officer Course is a comprehensive training experience consisting of practical and classroom training covering 21st-century policing best practices and focusing on the core principles of problem-solving, procedural justice, ethical decision-making, and fair and impartial policing. Upon completion of the Academy, student officers have met all training requirements to be eligible for Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission certification.

“We are pleased to welcome our new officers to the Arlington Police Department,” said Chief Flaherty. “I look forward to watching them develop as officers and individuals here in Arlington. I wish them all the best as they embark on their law enforcement careers.”

Each officer has been paired with a field training officer and is working to complete their 12 weeks of field training. They will be familiarized with APD policies and procedures and will be observed and evaluated by their field training officer before patrolling on their own.
