On Sunday, July 7, at about 3 a.m., Newport Police responded to a home on Indian Point Street in Newport City following reports than a man was trespassing, harassing a female homeowner, and refusing to leave.

An initial investigation determined that the man, identified as DICKENS, was subject to several court orders relating to alcohol, including conditions that he not contact the female homeowner and be present in Newport City.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that DICKENS had barricaded himself in the bathroom, said he had an assault rifle, and threatened to shoot the officers if they attempted entry.

DICKENS was taken into custody without incident, and a search of the property did not uncover any firearms.

DICKENS was arraigned on Monday, July 8, and is currently being held without bail.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
