IPSWICH — Town Manager Stephen Crane is pleased to announce that the Town of Ipswich will receive $234,667 in state funds to improve local infrastructure.
The money is in addition to funds that the Town receives annually through the Commonwealth’s Chapter 90 program, which provides funding to municipalities to improve local roads, bridges and sidewalks.
“Maintaining our infrastructure is key to providing a good quality of life for our residents and visitors, as well as supporting our local economy,” Crane said. “This additional funding will assist us to achieve that objective.”
In Fiscal Year 2024, Ipswich received $442,333 in Chapter 90 funds.
This supplemental allocation is part of $100 million in Fiscal 2024 Fair Share Amendment funds distributed by the Commonwealth. The revenue comes from the new state surtax on incomes greater than $1 million.
Half of the $100 million appropriation is distributed using the traditional Chapter 90 funding formula, which takes into consideration the number of miles of public roadways in a community (58.33%), the community’s population (20.83%), and the number of people employed in that community (20.83%). The other half is distributed using a formula based solely on the number of miles of public roadways in a community.
The Town of Ipswich will receive $124,084 based on road miles, and $110,583 based on the Chapter 90 formula.
Cities and towns are able to access and use these funds immediately without needing project approval. However, expenditures must comply with Chapter 90 and applicable local, state or federal regulations.
