DANVERS — The Massachusetts Organization of Educational Collaboratives (MOEC) is pleased to share that four Educational Collaboratives in its Northeast Region including, CREST Collaborative, SEEM Collaborative, Northshore Education Consortium and Valley Collaborative recently hosted the second annual Special Olympics event.
On Tuesday, June 11, CREST Collaborative Executive Director Bob Jokela, SEEM Collaborative Executive Director Cathy Lawson, Northshore Education Consortium Executive Director Francine Rosenberg and Valley Collaborative Executive Director Chris Scott, along with staff and students from their respective schools, participated in a variety of Special Olympic activities at St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers.
Throughout the day, more than 350 students from all four collaboratives participated activities including, Field Hockey, Hoop Roll Relay, Throwing, Jumping, Soccer, Obstacle Course, a Walk / Run and Football.
Following the activities, all student participants were recognized during a small ceremony on the stage built for the Special Olympics Game day and were awarded with medals.
The team of organizers held a Welcome Ceremony prior to the lunch break. The students walked the track with each collaborative team led by a couple of students holding a banner representing each collaborative.
A few words of thanks was shared by CREST Collaborative’sBill Bryant, Kevin O’Grady School Family Center Director Sheila Guiney, SEEM Collaborative’s Program Lead Susan Tremonte, Valley Collaborative’s Program Lead Katie Nutile, Valley Collaborative’s Program Lead Peter Loring and Kevin O’Grady School Principal, Martha Krol.
A special shout out to Terri Keilty and Gabe Velasquez who represented The Special Olympics Organization, and St. John’s Prep Liaison Mike Evans.
The second annual Special Olympics event was organized by Bill Bryant of CREST Collaborative.
By joining forces, these organizations not only demonstrated their commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion but also enriched the lives of countless athletes and their supporters.
“As we reflect on the success of our second Special Olympics event, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to this remarkable event,” said CREST Collaborative Executive Director Bob Jokela.
“Events such as these, shine a light on the efforts of collaborative programs across the state to create an inclusive society where individuals of all abilities, have the opportunity to learn and thrive,” said Executive Director Joanne Haley Sullivan.
