BOURNE — Superintendent Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou is pleased to share that 27 students and 16 Bourne Public Schools staff members were honored with the Navigator Award at the School Committee Meeting on June 5.

The Navigator Award recognizes students and staff whose exemplary achievements directly support the Bourne School District’s core values and “The Bourne Advantage.” Student recipients of the Navigator Award demonstrated achievements in one or more of the following categories: Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving, Teamwork and Collaboration, Creativity and Innovation, Effective Written and Verbal Communication, and Responsibility and Accountability. Students were nominated by district staff members.

Staff recipients of the Navigator Award exemplified achievements in one or more of the following categories: Teamwork and Collaboration with Students and Staff, Creativity and Innovation, Dedication to Student Achievement and Well-being, and Dedication to District Improvement. Staff were nominated by other BPS faculty.

The awards were presented by the Bourne School Committee, and recipients were called up to receive their recognition as their nomination letters were read aloud. This is the third annual awards ceremony, but this year’s event marks the first time that staff were recipients as well.

Nominations included descriptions of student’s acts of kindness, instances of taking leadership, problem-solving skills and role-model behavior. Stories ranged from a student who filled an understudy role for the school play at quick notice, a student who discovered a passion for reading, and leadership seen on the Student Council.

“This award highlights students who take the initiative to forge their own path and navigate their way into the future and staff who go above and beyond to help students navigate their path by creating an environment that sets Bourne Public Schools apart,” Superintendent Quinlan-Zhou said. “On behalf of the entire BPS community, I congratulate our recipients for their well-deserved achievement.”

“We always look forward to sharing the successes of our BPS community and are thrilled that staff could share the spotlight this year,” added School Committee Chair Emily Berry. “It was an honor for the Bourne School Committee to  present these awards to our staff and students!”
