MANSFIELD – Superintendent Teresa Murphy and Principal Russ Booth are pleased to announce that Mansfield High School student Nico Smith recently received the USA Lacrosse All-American Award.
Each year, USA Lacrosse sponsors three awards intended to recognize athletic excellence, academic excellence, and service to the community. The USA Lacrosse All-American Award is presented to an athlete who exhibits superior skills and techniques and possesses exceptional game sense and knowledge. A USA Lacrosse All-American is recognized as one of the best players in their respective area of the country, and who also embodies excellent sportsmanship.
Smith, a sophomore, has been a member of the Mansfield High School Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse Team for two years. On the field, Smith is a face-off specialist, a two-way midfielder, and a member of the man-up unit.
While positioned as a midfielder, he recorded 62 goals, 34 assists, and 191 ground balls.
Smith also is a letterman on the varsity football team and a point-earner on the winter track team. He often works with Mansfield youth lacrosse teams and is a member of multiple advanced club teams.
“Congratulations to Nico on this honor,” said Principal Booth. “Nico has been a leader on and off the field, and an integral part of every team. We expect terrific things in his junior and senior years.”
