DARTMOUTH — Executive Director Catherine Cooper is pleased to announce that Southeastern Massachusetts Educational Collaborative (SMEC) will be hosting a variety of workshops led by Individualized Education Program (IEP) expert Allan Blume.

An IEP is a plan for specialized instruction, support, and services written to meet the individual needs of a student with a disability.

Massachusetts last had a new IEP form in 2001. The new IEP form provides a unique opportunity for districts and special educators to consider making the IEP meaningful for all stakeholders. The new IEP is an evidence-based and data-driven document that provides a rare opportunity to review old practices and let go of those that no longer apply.

SMEC will host the following series of online and in-person workshops:

WHEN:

Monday, June 10, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

WHERE:

Holyoke Community College, 303 Homestead Ave., Holyoke

WHAT:

This full-day workshop seeks to demystify the new document, making IEP writing easier by providing formulas and sentence starters that individuals can embed in their practice. The starters help to ease the IEP process and provide consistency from one person to the next and from one building to the next, all while maintaining the concept of individualization as the core element of IEP writing, ideally making IEP writing more straightforward, more efficient and more consistent across a district.

COST:

$275 per person (groups of 10 or more, $225 per person)

To register, visit On Smart PD, call Sherri Tetrault at 508-998-5599, ext. 130, or email stetrault@smecollaborative.org.

WHEN:

Mondays: Sept. 23, Oct.17, Oct. 21, Nov. 18, Nov. 25 and Dec. 9 (Participants sign up for one of the series).

Series 1: During school 1-2 p.m.

Series 2: After school 3:30-4:30 p.m.

WHERE:

Online via Zoom (Link provided after registration)

WHAT:

This series is designed to provide educators with practical approaches for IEP writing in six one-hour, topic-specific Zoom sessions, followed by brief online activities. The activities allow each participant to learn and apply concepts to the new MA IEP form, thereby enhancing their skills with IEP development and writing. By participating in all six lessons, and completing the online activities, educators can earn 10 PDPs.

Topics include Present Levels Statement, Strengths/Interests/Preferences, Accommodations/Modifications, Baseline, Goals/Objectives, Transition Planning Statements, and Service Delivery Grids.

COST:

$250 SMEC member district, $275 non-member district
Group pricing: 10 or more $225 per person

To register, call Sherri Tetrault at 508-998-5599, ext. 130
