SOUTH EASTON — Dozens of Southeastern students were recognized recently for their achievements in this year’s district SkillsUSA Competition.
On March 13, students who competed in the district SkillsUSA Competition were honored during a ceremony at Southeastern Regional. The school is a member of SkillsUSA Massachusetts District II.
Awards were announced in more than 20 categories covering a range of career and technical education specialties. SkillsUSA Advisor Leah Doolin announced the awards and Advisor Marc Raimondo presented the students with medals and certificates.
Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were presented to both individual students and school teams. Many of these students also qualified to compete in the statewide conference.
“SkillsUSA is a great opportunity for our students to demonstrate trade skills, knowledge and leadership, as well as network with peers at the state and national conferences,” Principal Leslie Weckesser said. “Congratulations to all of the students who placed and best of luck to those who are continuing on to compete at the state level next month.”

Each year, SkillsUSA Massachusetts hosts six District Qualifying Events to determine which students will compete in the Massachusetts SkillsUSA Championships. During these events, held from February to March, students complete a written SkillsUSA Employment Skills test and a written trade knowledge test.
Students who qualified in their district move on to compete in the State Leadership & Skills Conference from April 25-27. Students who qualify through the state conference will be eligible to compete at the National Leadership & Skills Conference in June.
SkillsUSA Massachusetts is the state chapter of the national SkillsUSA organization, both of which support students in middle school and beyond who are studying skilled trades.
