MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA — Superintendent Pam Beaudoin, Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Chief Todd Fitzgerald and Essex Police Chief Paul Francis share there is an active investigating underway at Manchester Memorial Elementary School after a parent found projectiles in a lost and found bin.
At about 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1, a parent found four projectiles in a lost and found bin at the school. Administrators, following policies and procedures, notified the Manchester-by-the-Sea and Essex Police Departments immediately.
A preliminary investigation determined that the projectiles did not have casing or primer, and therefore could not be fired. It is not clear when the projectiles may have been placed there. A Friday afternoon elementary school play scheduled was rescheduled out of an abundance of caution.
Manchester-by-the-Sea and Essex Police officers and the Massachusetts State Police K-9 Unit are searching throughout the school at this time. The District is awaiting the outcome of the search to determine whether evening activities will be held as planned.
This release will be updated as more information becomes available.
