CANTON — Superintendent-Director Jill Rossetti and Vocational Director Michelle Sylvia are pleased to share that Blue Hills Regional Technical High School students recently celebrated National Entrepreneur Week by participating in a variety of entrepreneurial activities.

During Blue Hills Entrepreneur Week, celebrated Feb. 12-17, students participated in a variety of activities designed to help them network with entrepreneurs throughout the country and local community through collaboration, connection and education.

Monday and Wednesday of Entrepreneur Week kicked off with video presentations and classroom activities, which highlighted specific entrepreneurs.

On Wednesday, students kicked off a Shark Tank Competition where they were tasked with creating a budget and writing a business plan for judging. Several faculty have signed up to coach these teams of students.  The projects will be presented to a panel of “Sharks” on March 15.

On Thursday, students attended the Build a Better Business Program, led by NeighborWorks Housing Solutions Small Business Development Officer Tricia White. The program covers the legal, marketing and financial aspects of running a business and provides attendees with the tools necessary to create a working business plan.

During the whole week, students worked in groups to decorate a cafeteria windowpane to reflect an entrepreneur or an entrepreneurial theme. Students then voted on the best window and winners will have lunch in the Chateau restaurant at a later date.

Following the window decorating activity, a Student Entrepreneur Showcase was held in the cafeteria, where current Blue Hills student entrepreneurs were given the opportunity to showcase their businesses/products.

Student entrepreneurs included junior Ahmad Barry (Arabic Street wear clothing brand), senior Yen Tran (MisoKicks), sophomore Shailagh Haley (Design and make your own shirt, hoodies, stickers, water bottles and notebooks), and senior Nelson Aimiuwu (watercolor art pieces).

To wrap up the week, a moderated panel of community entrepreneurs answered questions for the entire school. Guests were hosted in one classroom and teachers used Google Meet for each of their classes to participate.

Moderated panel guests included Jessica Peters and Jeff Williams of Williams Automotive in Randolph, Blue Hills alumni Andrew Parks who owns Luxe Detailing, Brian Kalfin of Hytec Automation in Avon, Monique Souza of Salon Monique Day Spa in Canton, Kayla Brown of XO Beauty in Quincy, and retired Canton Police Officer Chip Yeaton.

“Blue Hills Entrepreneur Week was a great success,” said Vocational Director Sylvia. “It is our hope that these activities get our students thinking about their places in business and what it may look like to be an entrepreneur.”

“I would like to thank each of our moderated panel guests and workshop presenters who participated in Entrepreneur Week,” said Superintendent-Director Rossetti. “Each of our guests brought a unique and inspiring perspective to the table and instilled confidence in each of our talented student entrepreneurs.”
