STONEHAM — The Stoneham Police Department is pleased to share that the department hosted a successful community safety forum, where residents and community partners were able to learn about bicycle, e-bike, and electric dirt bike safety ahead of the spring weather.

As warmer weather approaches, Stoneham Police dedicated time to speak with residents about recreational travel safety on April 2 at Stoneham High School. E-bikes are a newer travel trend, and keeping residents and motorists safe is a top priority.

During the event, Stoneham Police were joined by the Stoneham Fire Department, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, and state Rep. Mike Day. Officials discussed safety precautions and trends they are seeing across the state. The event was also coordinated with the assistance of Safe Routes to School and City Cycle of Stoneham

Stoneham Fire talked about how to properly store e-bikes and motorized vehicles that use lithium batteries. In recent years, lithium batteries and improper storage of electric vehicles have been a large cause of house fires.

Residents were able to ask questions to public safety partners and gather insight into helmet safety and how to be a mindful vehicle operator while on the roads.

“This was a wonderful event for our community to come together to ensure the safety of motorists, children, and those using e-bikes,” said Chief O’Connor. “I would like to thank our partners from Stoneham Fire, Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, City Cycle of Stoneham, and our state representatives for participating in this event.”
