Town of Bridgewater to Celebrate Preservation of Hanson Farm with Ribbon Cutting

BRIDGEWATER — The Town of Bridgewater will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday, April 13, to celebrate the preservation of Hanson Farm through a conservation easement protecting approximately 72 acres of the historic property.

The conservation restriction, finalized in July 2025, was made possible through funding from the state’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Grant Program and local Community Preservation Act funds. The project protects a portion of the farm’s roughly 275 acres from future development.

Hanson Farm, a third-generation family-owned farm on Pleasant Street, has served the Bridgewater community since the 1970s. The farm is known for its produce, hay fields, and the Sugar Hill Dairy ice cream stand.

The conservation effort was modeled after the 2015 Murray/Needs Conservation Project and involved collaboration between the Hanson family, the Bridgewater Community Preservation Committee, Wildlands Trust, the Town Manager’s Office, and the Town Council.

The event will recognize the partners and community members who helped secure the conservation restriction and ensure that the farmland remains protected while continuing to support local agriculture and open space.
