Gloucester Fire Department Responds to House Fire

GLOUCESTER — The Gloucester Fire Department extinguished a house fire on Magnolia Avenue on Monday afternoon.

On Monday, April 6, at approximately 12:42 p.m., the Gloucester Fire Department was called to 146 Magnolia Ave., for reports of a house fire. Upon the crew’s arrival, heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from the building, and it was declared a working fire.

All occupants were evacuated from the building, and no injuries were reported. Unfortunately, two of the family’s dogs died in the fire.

Crews were able to establish a nearby water supply and began aggressively extinguishing the fire. The fire was knocked down at approximately 1:22 p.m.

National Grid arrived on scene to assist with shutting off the power to the home. Station coverage was provided by the Essex Fire Department and the Manchester-by-the-Sea Fire Department.

“I want to thank our on-duty personnel and mutual aid partners for their quick response,” said Chief Smith. “Due to our crews, we kept this to a working fire and minimized damage from extending to the surrounding areas.”

There was significant damage to the home, and residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Gloucester Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
