SOUTH EASTON — Executive Director Kevin A. Lazaro is pleased to announce that Alexandra “Lexi” Maynard, a student in the Southeastern Technical Institute (STI) Dental Assisting program, was named recipient of the Outstanding Post-Secondary Student Award by the Massachusetts Career & Technical Educators Organization.

Maynard, of Mansfield, who is graduating this year from a 9-month program, excels in the classroom, serves as a peer tutor, and contributes to STI’s Institutional Advisory Board. She received her award on Saturday, March 28, at the Mass CTE Awards Ceremony held at the Renaissance Hotel in Foxborough.

“Lexi is an inspiration to her classmates due to her intelligence, humility and compassion,” said Donna Becker, Business Administrator Instructor at STI. “Lexi embodies excellence, leadership and a genuine desire to make difference in dentistry. She exemplifies the very best of career and technical education.”

Maynard came to STI in September last year with a bachelor’s degree in allied health science, seeking to prepare herself further for dental school and a career change, while she also works to complete her required 300-hour externship in a general practice.

“Lexi’s dedication to the dental profession, strong work ethic, and compassionate approach to patient care set her apart,” said Becker, who nominated Maynard for the award. “She is a standout representative of both our program and the broader impact of CTE in preparing a highly skilled workforce. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and can’t wait to see the impact she will make in the field.”

STI’s Dental Assisting Program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), ensuring that students receive high-quality, industry-aligned training. Under the leadership of Program Director Tracy Santos, who has 29 years of experience in the dental field, the Dental Assisting Program at STI stands out as one of only two programs in southeastern Massachusetts to hold this accreditation.

“The program emphasizes hands-on learning, clinical experience, and workforce readiness, preparing graduates for immediate employment in the dental field,” Becker said.

CODA accreditation, backed by the American Dental Association, reflects a commitment to excellence, accountability and continuous program improvement. Students in the program receive comprehensive training that prepares them to enter the workforce with confidence, competence and a competitive edge. At a time when there is a national shortage of dental assistants, graduates are entering a field with strong demand and abundant career opportunities.

“We are very proud of our CODA-accredited Dental Assisting program,” said STI Executive Director Kevin A. Lazaro. “Students like Lexi are perfect examples of the opportunities for hands-on learning and career advancement that are available at STI. We are happy she has found a supportive learning community here as well, and we thank her for all her efforts to give back as a peer tutor.”
