Acushnet Elementary School Awarded Grant by One8 Foundation for Investigating History Program

ACUSHNET — Superintendent Dr. Paula Bailey, Assistant Superintendent Angela Ruggeri and Principal Leah Chesney are proud to share that Acushnet Elementary School was awarded a $13,800 grant from the One8 Foundation to implement the Investigating History program.

Investigating History is a comprehensive, inquiry-based, applied learning social studies curriculum offered by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Grant funds will be distributed over the course of three years to support teacher professional development and the purchase of educational materials.

The Investigating History program will be presented to students in Grades 3 and 4.

Investigating History Magnify, a support team behind the Investigating History program, will work directly with Acushnet Elementary School teachers to help implement the curriculum.

The implementation of the Investigating History program at Acushnet Elementary School follows the implementation of an Investigating History program at Ford Middle School, which is currently in its first year offering the program. The program at Ford Middle School is also supported by grand funds provided by the One8 Foundation, which is a Boston-based nonprofit, with a focus on STEM and applied learning.

“This grant allows us to expand the success of Investigating History and applied learning from our middle school into our elementary classrooms,” said Assistant Superintendent Ruggeri. “We’re excited to grow this work and connect with a broader educator network.”

“This is an exciting opportunity for our school,” said Acushnet Elementary School Principal Chesney. “With resources, professional learning, and a collaborative network, we’re eager to bring this engaging approach to our elementary students.”

“We are grateful to the One8 Foundation for supporting our commitment to innovative, student-centered learning,” said Superintendent Dr. Bailey. “Expanding Investigating History into our elementary schools is an exciting next step for our district.”
