HAMPTON — Superintendent Lois Costa and Principal Marc Robitaille are pleased to share that SAU 90’s Centre School welcomed guest readers on Monday, March 16, as part of the school’s ongoing literacy initiatives.
Community members and district staff visited Centre School to read with students in Preschool through Grade 2. The annual event helps promote a love of reading while strengthening connections between the school and the Hampton community.
Students celebrated the day by dressing up as their favorite book characters, sports teams, animals and more. Over 19 guest readers participated in the event, each assigned to a classroom to share stories and read a book with the students.
Guests included police officers, firefighters, local business owners, and district administrators, among other community members who volunteered to support the school’s literacy efforts.
In addition to the events’ literacy benefits, students had the opportunity to interact with community members and ask questions about their careers, gaining insight into different professions.
Literacy initiatives will continue throughout the month, as Centre School works toward its goal of reading 1,000 books by March 31. Students have already read over 700 books.
“I’m extremely grateful to our guest readers who took time out of their days to improve our students’ educational experiences,” said Principal Robitaille. “Having guest readers welcomed into the school every year has proven instrumental in our literacy initiatives, and we hope to continue this tradition.”
“It’s inspiring to see our community come together to support our schools,” said Superintendent Costa. “Being able to connect with community members through these events, gives students confidence in learning new things from a variety of remarkable people across their own community. I would like to thank our guest readers for their continued support of our students which in turn helps strengthens their love of reading.”
