North Reading Fire Department Extinguish Two-Alarm Basement Fire

NORTH READING — Chief Don Stats reports that the North Reading Fire Department responded to and extinguished a two-alarm basement fire Saturday evening.

On Saturday, March 14, at approximately 6:57 p.m., North Reading Fire received a report of a basement fire at a home at 36 Niblick Way.

Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the basement of the two-story home.

North Reading Fire immediately began an aggressive attack of the fire and struck a second alarm to bring additional resources to the scene. Crews were able to contain the fire to the basement.

There were no reported injuries.

Mutual aid was provided by the Middleton, Lynnfield, Reading, and Wilmington Fire Departments. The Andover, North Andover, and Wakefield Fire Departments provided station coverage during the incident.

The cause of the fire appears to be related to a malfunctioning electrical appliance and remains under investigation by the North Reading Fire Department.

“Thanks to the quick response of our firefighters and mutual aid partners, the fire was contained to the basement and prevented from spreading to the rest of the home,” said Chief Stats. “I’m proud of the work our firefighters did tonight and grateful for the support from our mutual aid partners who assisted on scene and covered our stations.”
