MERRIMAC — The Merrimac Fire Department responded early Friday morning to a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 495 southbound.
At approximately 5:18 a.m., Merrimac Fire was dispatched to I-495 southbound just after the on-ramp from Broad Street for a report of a tractor trailer that had crashed through a guardrail.
The driver, who appeared to have minor injuries, was evaluated on scene by Merrimac Fire crews and did not require further treatment.
Massachusetts State Police responded and MassDOT is assisting with traffic control. Cody’s Towing is working to recover the tractor trailer.
The Merrimac Fire Department remains on scene with an engine company and expects to remain at the scene for several hours as recovery operations continue.
Morning traffic patterns have been and will continue to be affected as crews continue operations. The Merrimac Fire Department asks that motorists avoid the area and seek alternate routes if possible.
The crash is being investigated by Massachusetts State Police.
