Medway High School Earns AP Platinum Honor Roll Distinction

The Medway High School Class of 2025 recently achieved top-honor Platinum Distinction on the College Board’s 2025 AP School Honor Roll.

MEDWAY — Superintendent Dr. Armand Pires and Principal Dr. John Murray are proud to announce that the Medway High School Class of 2025 recently achieved top-honor Platinum Distinction on the College Board’s 2025 AP School Honor Roll.

The honor recognizes schools whose Advanced Placement programs are delivering results for students while broadening participation. Schools achieve one of four levels of recognition: Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum.

To earn Platinum Distinction on the AP School Honor Roll in a given year, a school must meet the following criteria:

  • 80% or more of the graduating cohort took at least one AP exam during high school.
  • 50% or more of the graduating cohort scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam during high school.
  • 15% or more of the graduating cohort took five or more AP exams during high school with at least one being taken in the 9th or 10th grade.

The Medway High School Class of 2025 significantly exceeded the benchmarks:

  • 82% of 2025 MHS graduates took at least one AP Exam (College Culture)
  • 71% of 2025 MHS graduates earned a score of 3+ on at least one AP Exam (College Credit)
  • 40% of 2025 MHS graduates took five or more AP Exams (College Optimization)

Only 10% of qualifying Massachusetts high schools earned Platinum status, and 8% nationally.

“The Class of 2025 is a stellar example of a group of students who worked hard toward continuing their education after high school,” said Dr. Murray. “These students amazed us every school day, and they continue to achieve even now, more than a semester after commencement.”

During the 2024-25 school year, 244 Medway High School students participated in Advanced Placement courses, 532 AP Exams were administered, and 85% of AP exams earned a score of 3 or higher, reflecting a highly competitive overall exam performance.

Medway High School graduated 49 AP Scholars and 31 AP Scholars with Distinction in 2025.

AP Access Award

Medway High School also earned the 2025 AP Access Award, which recognizes schools that:

  • Expand AP participation among low-income and underrepresented students
  • Ensure AP participation reflects the diversity of the student body
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework

“Earning the Platinum AP Honor Roll distinction clearly illustrates Medway Public Schools’ commitment providing challenging coursework and the natural drive and ambition our students brought to their high school experience,” said Dr. Pires. “Our educators are also the heroes behind this achievement. Both our students and teachers worked hard for this distinction, and they all deserve our heartfelt congratulations.”

College Board’s Advanced Placement Program enables students to pursue college-level studies — with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both — while still in high school. Through AP courses in 38 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments and see many sides of an issue — skills that prepare them for college and beyond.

The College Board calculates the Honor Roll metrics using the graduating cohort, even though students begin taking AP exams earlier in high school.
