North Reading Public Safety Transitions to Motorola’s Rave Alert System, No Longer Using CodeRed

NORTH READING — The Town of North Reading shares that Town Hall and the Police and Fire Departments are now using Motorola’s Rave Alert System to administer emergency alerts.

The Town is no longer using CodeRED. In November 2025, the North Reading Police and Fire Departments notified the community of a nationwide cyber attack against the OnSolve CodeRED emergency notifications system.

Following the cyber attack, the Town decided to switch its emergency notification system, and is now transitioning to Motorola’s Rave Alert System, a service provided through North Reading’s membership in the North Shore Regional Emergency Communications Center, which the Police and Fire Departments transitioned into on Nov. 18, 2025.

The new system operates similarly to CodeRED, where residents who sign up for alerts will receive mass notifications from Town Hall and the Police and Fire Departments in the event of an emergency.

The service also has an app, Smart911, where users can receive alerts and upload their personal information into a Smart 911 Safety profile, which dispatchers can access when you call 911 to view your addresses, medical information and more potentially-life-saving information.

All residents who wish to receive emergency notifications from the Town of North Reading may sign up to do so by creating a new account within Motorola’s RAVE system. This includes past subscribers of the CodeRED system.

Residents can sign up for the new alert system here.
