MEDFIELD — Thomas Blake Middle School students recently hosted a successful dinner and donation drive for residents of Tilden Village in Medfield.
Fifteen students served approximately 50 Tilden Village residents a holiday meal. Students worked together to set up and decorate the community room before serving residents a sit-down meal. They also offered delivery services for residents who chose to stay home.
During the event, residents enjoyed music performed by members of the Medfield band and orchestra, including two flutists, one violinist and two violists, as well as five members of the eighth grade chorus.
Twenty Medfield families donated a variety of sides and supplies for the meal, including mashed potatoes, corn, peas, squash, green beans, cider, coffee, water, soda, paper towels, paper plates and tablecloths.
Students also raised $317 to purchase supplies for the dinner and support the Medfield Home Committee. The Committee, established in 1959, uses donations to provide holiday dinners, gifts and clothing for Medfield residents.
“I’d like to thank eighth grade teachers Michael Gibbs and Ann Marie Killilea for organizing this event, as well as the middle school families who generously donated supplies to make the dinner a success,” Principal Nat Vaughn said. “I also want to recognize the students who participated. It is always encouraging to see our students giving back to their community. Their kindness and enthusiasm do not go unnoticed.”
