Mansfield High School Receives $6,400 Grant to Support Student Financial Education

MANSFIELD — Mansfield High School has been awarded a $6,400 grant from the State Treasurer’s Financial Education Innovation Fund to support a financial education fair.

The grant will allow the school to host a “Credit for Life” financial education fair, an interactive, hands-on event that helps students explore real-life budgeting and money management.

During the fair, students will select a career, receive a monthly income and navigate common financial responsibilities such as housing, transportation, groceries and retirement savings. The experience is designed to give students practical exposure to money management before they graduate.

The Financial Education Innovation Fund, which is administered by the Office of Economic Empowerment, supports Massachusetts high schools in launching or expanding financial education programs, particularly for students who are beginning to earn income, take out loans and make independent financial decisions.

Mansfield High School received the grant through the fund’s “Seed” category, which supports schools hosting a financial education fair. Mansfield received the largest possible grant in its category.

The fair format can be tailored to fit each school’s size and student population. Past grant recipients have adapted the program to meet the learning styles and needs of their students, making the experience accessible and engaging.

“This program gives our students practical experience with the financial decisions they will soon be making on their own,” said Superintendent Dr. Michelle McKeon. “Learning how to budget, plan and manage money is an important part of preparing students for life after high school, and this grant helps make that possible.”

To qualify for the grant, schools must demonstrate a commitment to financial literacy education and comply with applicable state regulations.

Mansfield High School plans to host its Credit for Life fair in the Fall of 2026.
