Burlington Police Move to Temporary Station During New Headquarters Construction

BURLINGTON — The Burlington Police Department has moved to a temporary station as the department building project construction has officially begun.

The Burlington Police Station building project has officially launched, and construction is expected to take about two years. Construction began with the demolition of the old station at 45 Center St., which is expected to be complete by the end of January.

Burlington Police have been operating out of 171 Middlesex Turnpike for about two months. The site was previously a water treatment facility that had been renovated to allow full department operations while the new station is being built. There are no cells at the temporary station so after the booking process, arrestees are transported to Lexington or the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office/Billerica House of Corrections.

There has been no interruption to service, and the department remains open to the public 24/7. A phone in the lobby will connect residents to dispatch. The lobby is also open to the public for reporting in person.

Burlington Police would like to thank residents and local businesses for their continued support and for taking the time to drop off food and baked goods during the move.

“We would like to thank our community for their support in helping us make this seamless move,” said Chief Thomas P. Browne. “We look forward to seeing our new station when it is complete and want to reassure residents that we are committed to maintaining a high level of service during this time.”
