ATTLEBORO — The Attleboro Fire Department quickly extinguished a fire in a detached garage on Hope Street Extension Friday morning.
On Friday, Jan. 9, at about 9:57 a.m., Attleboro Fire was dispatched to 91 Hope St. Ext. for a reported structure fire.
Firefighters arrived to find a 25-foot-by-25-foot detached garage with heavy, dark smoke billowing from the structure. The garage is located approximately 10 feet from the main residence, which created an immediate exposure concern.
Crews quickly gained entry and located the fire in the rear of the garage. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within minutes and then conducted overhaul operations to check for and eliminate hot spots.
The fire was successfully contained to the contents of the garage, preventing extension to the nearby home.
“Garage fires are unique in their own way. You are never sure what is stored inside these buildings, and many contain equipment and fuels that can rapidly accelerate fire conditions,” said Attleboro Fire District Chief Michael Maitland. “Thanks to the quick actions of our crews, the fire was confined to the garage, and we were able to prevent it from spreading to the main residence.”
The Attleboro Fire Investigation Unit responded to the scene and is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
No injuries were reported.
Fire crews remained on scene until about 11:10 a.m.
