Rockport Police to Host Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission to ConductRe-Accreditation Assessment

ROCKPORT — Chief John Horvath reports that a team of assessors from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC) is scheduled to visit the Department to conduct re-accreditation assessments on Feb. 10-12.

MPAC assessors will conduct a comprehensive examination of the Rockport Police Department’s policies and procedures, operations, and facilities for re-accreditation.

To be re-accredited, Rockport Police must meet 340 standards, 274 mandatory and at least 66 optional. Such an accomplishment indicates that, of its own accord, the Department strives to meet and maintain standards that have been established for the profession, by the profession.

Lieutenant Michael Marino serves as the accreditation manager for the department. The department first received state certification in 2003 and achieved accreditation in 2005. Departments are required to be reassessed every three years.

Achieving accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.

“It is with pride that the Rockport Police Department participates in the accreditation process,” said Chief Horvath. “We aim to hold ourselves to the highest standard, and gaining re-accreditation is a strong message to our community that we are committed to professional and modern policing.”
