Blackstone Fire Department Responds After Worker Falls from Rooftop

BLACKSTONE — Chief Kevin Roy reports that Blackstone firefighters responded to a traumatic rescue after a contractor fell from the roof of a home.

Fire crews, along with Blackstone Police units, responded to a location on David Drive at 12:35 p.m. Upon arrival, rescuers located a contractor who was working on the roof of a home when he fell approximately 15 feet from the rooftop of the house onto the roof of the attached garage.

Due to the cold and icy conditions present — and because the victim was still more than 10 feet up on the garage roof — firefighters performed a delicate and careful extrication, successfully moving the patient from the roof to the ground.

The victim, who was patient and speaking with rescuers the entire time, sustained multiple traumatic injuries and was considered in serious condition. He was taken by medical helicopter to a trauma center. The victim’s name is not being released.

Chief Roy praised the careful work of rescuers on Saturday.

“This was a bitterly cold day with windy and icy conditions, adding a layer of danger to any rescue, but our firefighters drew upon their extensive training and experience to ensure that no one else was hurt while rescuing this fallen man,” Chief Roy said.
