WILMINGTON — Police Chief Brian Pupa reports to the community that the Wilmington Police Department is seeking to charge a Wilmington school bus driver with inappropriately touching a child who was riding the bus.
On Monday, Dec. 8, the Wilmington Police Department was notified of potentially inappropriate social media activity on the part of a bus driver in Wilmington. The Department immediately began an investigation, which was still ongoing on Wednesday, Dec. 10, and Thursday, Dec. 11, when additional parents contacted Wilmington Police with additional allegations regarding the bus driver. The third party vendor which provides transportation services to Wilmington Public Schools, NRT Bus, was notified, and suspended the bus driver from his route.
On Thursday, Dec. 11, one of the parents who contacted Wilmington Police reported that the bus driver allegedly touched their child inappropriately.
A subsequent investigation, which included review of video surveillance footage from the school bus, led investigators to determine that the bus driver allegedly touched a child inappropriately.
The bus driver, a 70-year-old Wilmington man, is being summonsed to Woburn District Court because Wilmington Police are seeking to charge him with Assault and Battery, and Indecent Assault and Battery on a Child Under 14.
The defendant is not being identified at this time since he faces a criminal summons instead of arrest. He will be identified at a later time if a criminal arraignment is scheduled.
These are allegations. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
