DRACUT — The Dracut Firefighters Union Local 2586 was pleased to host community members on Sunday morning as Santa Claus visited Dracut Fire Headquarters to sit for photos with children.
Cookies and hot chocolate were provided by the union to families who visited the fire house on Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon.
Retired Dracut Fire Alarm Operator and Lowell Police Dispatcher Steve Paris volunteered to take professional photos of families with Santa during the event and then made the photos available to families on social media afterward.
The event was organized by Lt. Joel Howard, with support from union membership.
This annual event also serves to help the Dracut Fire Department collect toys for children in need. Families who visited the fire house were welcome to make donations of new and unwrapped toys, which will be delivered to Toys for Local Children, a non-profit group that supports families in Middlesex and Essex counties.
The Dracut Fire Department collected hundreds of toys this year thanks to this event, the Dracut Police Department’s fill-a-cruiser event, and donations from the Dracut Department of Public Works and J&J Heating and Air Conditioning.
“We look forward each year to welcoming Santa to the fire house.” said Chief Michael Cunha. “I want to thank the union and its leadership for once again organizing this event for our community members and Dracut children. I’d also like to thank Steve Paris for once again volunteering to support our department, our membership and our community.”
