HUDSON — Chief Richard DiPersio reports that the Hudson Police Department is investigating an alleged swatting incident.
On Wednesday, Dec. 17, 7:55 a.m., Hudson Police were dispatched to Hudson High School after a caller reported that students in the school were armed, a report later determined to be unfounded.
Hudson Police and mutual aid response partners immediately responded to the school. The school was placed on lockdown, and the building was cleared by police. Police determined that the report was false, and there was no danger to students.
As a precaution, Hudson Police will have an increased presence on school grounds for duration of the day.
The incident is being investigated by Hudson Police, with assistance from Massachusetts State Police, as an act of swatting. The trend of swatting typically describes the commission of a prank in which calls are placed to emergency services in an attempt to trigger the dispatch of a large number of police officers to a particular address.
Massachusetts State Police and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Section, Hudson Fire, Marlborough Police, Bolton Police, Berlin Police, and the Worcester and Framingham Police K-9 Units responded on scene.
“I would like to commend our Department for their professionalism in dealing with this disturbing report. Hudson Police, with assistance from State Police and response partners, were able to clear the building and determine there was no threat to students,” said Chief DiPersio. “We understand that given the events of the past week, this may be a troubling incident for many members of our community. The Hudson Police Department is committed to the security and safety of our community and schools.”
