BELLINGHAM — The Bellingham Fire Department responded to and extinguished a working fire in a home on Patrick Street early Saturday morning.
On Saturday, Dec. 13, at approximately 2:58 a.m., a Bellingham Police officer on patrol spotted a house fire at 1 Patrick St. and alerted the Bellingham Communications Center.
The police officer assisted a resident with leaving the house.
Bellingham Fire Ladder 1 arrived and confirmed a working fire, at which point Chief William R. Miller arrived and ordered a working fire assignment to the scene.
Firefighters quickly connected and stretched hose lines to attack the fire. Mutual aid companies from Franklin, Hopedale, Mendon, Medway, and Norfolk responded as well as the Northern Rhode Island Light and Rehab Unit.
Companies were able to bring the fire under control in about 45 minutes. There were no reported injuries. Crews remained on scene for an extended period to conduct overhaul of the home, which is a total loss.
The Red Cross of Massachusetts was contacted to assist the displaced resident.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental but remains under investigation by the Bellingham Fire Department, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit.
