BLACKSTONE — Chief Gregory Gilmore is pleased to share that the Blackstone Police Department is now offering autism awareness seat belt covers for residents.
The covers can be attached to seat belts or backpack straps and help first responders identify if a passenger in a vehicle may be on the autism spectrum. This information supports officers during emergencies and other calls for service by giving them a clearer understanding of how to communicate and respond.
The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism donated the covers, which are available at no cost to any resident. Residents can visit the Blackstone Police Department at
15 St. Paul St. to get a seat belt cover.
“We encourage residents to use these seat belt covers as a safety tool,” Chief Gilmore said. “They can help ensure our officers provide support in ways that meet each person’s need. We are grateful to the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism for making these available and welcome anyone who could benefit from a cover to request one.”
