Ludlow Fire Department and Ludlow Senior Center Deliver 70 Buckets of Sand Through Annual ‘Sand for Seniors Program’

LUDLOW — The Ludlow Fire Department and the Ludlow Senior Center delivered 70 buckets of sand through the annual ‘Sand for Seniors Program’.

On Tuesday, Dec. 9, members of the Ludlow Fire Department delivered buckets of sand-and-salt mixture to residents’ homes.

Each winter, Ludlow Fire partners with the Ludlow Senior Center to provide older adults with a simple but effective tool to help prevent slip-and-fall injuries during icy conditions.

Older adults in need are given buckets of a salt-and-sand mixture for residents to use on their walkways and driveways in winter weather and icy conditions.

The Ludlow Senior Center identified community members in need, while the Ludlow Department of Public Works supplied the sand mixture. The buckets were donated by People’s Bank.

This initiative has become a yearly tradition as a way to strengthen community partnerships and highlight the town’s ongoing commitment to supporting senior safety.

“This program is a wonderful way to connect with our community members in an effort to support those in need,” said Chief Pease. “Icy walkways can be extremely dangerous, and making sure they are properly sanded and salted can lower the chance of a fall.”
