MELROSE — The Hundred Club of Massachusetts Executive Director Tracie Hines recently joined Melrose Police Chief Kevin Faller on the Melrose Police “Behind the Badge” Podcast to share information about the club and assistance that has been provided to a fallen Melrose officer.
Chief Faller has hosted “Behind the Badge’ — which gives Melrose community members an inside look at their police department — since January 2024. In his latest episode, he invited in Director Hines.
On July 16, Melrose Officer Stephan Galvin passed away unexpectedly. The Hundred Club of Massachusetts stepped in that very same day to provide immediate support to Officer Galvin’s wife and children.
During the podcast, Melrose Police Lt. Paul Norton spoke about hearing from Director Hines on the day that Officer Galvin passed away, and the relief felt by his widow at receiving help.
“The level of stress that came off her shoulders — I mean, I could hear it through the phone,” Lt. Norton said. “It was just amazing.”
Officer Tommy Grant also appeared on the podcast because Melrose Police Officers are participating in the 2026 Boston Bruins BFit Challenge to show their appreciation for The Hundred Club’s support. First responders will collect donations to run the stairs of the TD Garden to support The Hundred Club.
Executive Director Hines explained the origins of The Hundred Club, which was founded in 1959. It is one of many Hundred Clubs around the country, which are not affiliated but all serve the families of fallen first responders.
Director Hines hopes to double The Hundred Club’s current membership of approximately 1,000 and noted that doing so would enable The Hundred Club to support even more families in more ways.
The Hundred Club provides lifelong benefits to the families of first responders who lose their lives in the line of duty, but at this time cannot provide lifetime benefits to first responders who lose their life in a non-line or off-duty incident. If membership is doubled, additional support could be offered to more families of the fallen.
The Hundred Club also provides scholarships for children of fallen first responders and support for mental health and grief counseling.
