IPSWICH — The Ipswich Fire Department battled a house fire on Monday evening, and teamwork showed by firefighters from Ipswich and its mutual aid partners was instrumental in preventing the fire from spreading and causing further damage.
Ipswich Emergency Communications received a call for smoke in the house at 8 Pine St, shortly after 7 p.m. Ipswich Engine 2 was dispatched along with an automatic aid engine from Rowley. Upon arrival, Engine 2 found a fire in the walls near a running wood burning stove in a 1.5 story Cape Cod style wood framed house. The rapid arrival of the fire fighters enabled a fast attack on the fire, which the firefighters were able to confine to the room of origin and quickly extinguish.
“Due to the extremely cold weather conditions, we staffed to four firefighters tonight, and that, and coupled with the quick response of the Rowley Engine, which is now staffed at all hours, made a big difference in containing this fire before it spread,” said Ipswich Fire Chief Paul Parisi. “Firefighters did a terrific job this evening, stopping the fire in its tracks, and we wish to thank all of our mutual aid partners for their quick response and teamwork.
In addition to Rowley off-duty Ipswich firefighters were called in to staff the department’s ladder truck. The Ipswich Police Department also responded and assisted at the scene. Fire crews from Essex and Topsfield provided station coverage.
Moderate fire, smoke and water damage was confined to the room where the fire began.
No one was injured. An Ipswich Fire Department investigation determined that the fire was accidental, caused by the chimney pipe igniting wood frame members inside the wall.
