DRACUT — The Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Foundation donated $11,000 to Cops for Kids with Cancer earlier this month to support the organization’s efforts to aid those battling cancer.
The major donation was made at the NEMLEC Foundation’s annual Comedy Night, which raises money to support the foundation and the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC).
Boston comedian Steve Sweeney headlined a comedy show that kept guests laughing after dinner was served at the Four Oaks Country Club in Dracut on Friday, Nov. 14.
Cops for Kids with Cancer is a non-profit organization that provides funds to families across New England who have children battling cancer. The organization now provides $5,000 checks to eight families per month across New England.
Funds are meant to help families fill the many gaps in finances that a cancer diagnosis can create. Funds can be used to help with medical bills, or more routine costs such as transportation or household needs that can often be overlooked when medical bills pile up.
Any police department in New England can sponsor a family with a child battling cancer.
“Cops for Kids with Cancer is a truly incredible organization that has touched lives all across our Commonwealth and region,” said Director Crowley. “It was our privilege to be able to support such a great cause.”
“The NEMLEC Foundation has been an extraordinary partner to Cops for Kids with Cancer for many years. Their sustained financial support has had a direct and meaningful impact on our mission, allowing us to continue easing the burden on families facing a childhood cancer diagnosis,” said Chelmsford Police Deputy Chief Gary Hannagan, who is a board member for Cops for Kids with Cancer. “Sharon Crowley and her team have consistently made our organization a priority, year after year, and their generosity reflects a genuine commitment to helping children and families during the most difficult moments of their lives. We are truly grateful for their long-standing partnership and the trust they place in the work we do.”
Additional proceeds from Comedy Night will assist NEMLEC’s training programs, and provide equipment for NEMLEC SWAT, RRT, K9, STARS, and the NEMLEC Motor Unit. Proceeds also go toward basic and advanced criminal investigation training, and many other essential training programs that are needed by today’s officers. The training programs are available to officers in the NEMLEC region, which is comprised of 68 law enforcement agencies in Middlesex and Essex counties.
