MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Police Department has received a $147,000 Community Mitigation Fund Grant from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to support equipment upgrades, officer training and proactive patrol work.
Mansfield Police will use the grant funding in the following areas:
- $22,600 to purchase 10 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
- $40,400 for officer training on topics including de-escalation, implicit bias, use of force, human trafficking, drug investigations, money laundering, and cyber crimes.
- $84,700 to cover the cost of overtime patrol shifts to proactively address calls for service at Mansfield’s three hotels, including implementing data-driven, high-visibility impact shifts and providing access to social services through the department’s Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) unit and embedded co-responder mental health clinician.
“We appreciate the Commission’s support and the work done by our staff to secure this funding,” said Chief Ronald Sellon. “This grant helps us invest in lifesaving equipment, prepare officers for complex situations and provide extra support in areas where calls are increasing.”
Since 2015, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission has granted approximately $56.7 million in funding to advance needs in transportation, community planning, workforce development and public safety initiatives for eligible municipalities and government entities located in the vicinity of casinos.
