Blackstone Parks and Recreation Announces New Selfie Elfie Location, Launches Holiday Food Drive

BLACKSTONE — The Blackstone Parks and Recreation Commission is introducing a new format for the annual Selfie Elfie tradition and inviting residents to take part in an effort to support the Blackstone Food Pantry.

Selfie Elfie has been a favorite stop for families for years. After reviewing the results of a recent opinion poll, the Commission decided this is the right season to try something different.

This year, all Selfie Elfie photo opportunities will be located at the Blackstone Municipal Center, giving families one central place to visit throughout December.

The new setup also opens the door to a larger community initiative. Beginning Dec. 1, a donation “gift” box provided by Walsh Builders will be placed outside Town Hall for anyone who wishes to drop off items for the Food Pantry. The box will be available through Dec. 24. If it has been brought inside for the night, donations may be brought to the Blackstone Police Station.

To help spread holiday spirit, the Commission has created a list of daily Acts of Kindness for families to try during the month of December. Each idea is a simple way to brighten someone’s day. The list is available on the Town’s website, and will also be handed out during the Annual Tree Lighting at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30.

“This felt like the right year to rethink Selfie Elfie while keeping the fun that families look forward to,” said Parks and Recreation Chairperson Celeste Langlois. “We hope residents enjoy the new setup and join us in helping neighbors who need extra support. Small acts can make a big difference.”
