BURLINGTON — Superintendent Eric Conti and Principal Mark Sullivan are pleased to share that students from Burlington High School (BHS) recently participated in a Fireside Chat, where industry professionals discussed the intersection of life sciences and Artificial Intelligence.
Burlington High School students visited Northeastern University’s Innovation Campus in Burlington, on Nov. 12 to attend “Catalyzing Innovation at the Intersection of Life Sciences and AI in the Region,” a fireside chat presented in collaboration with the Northeastern University Innovation Center (NEUIC), the Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce, CallaBio Solutions, and the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center as part of their quarterly Fireside Chat Series to discuss the intersection of life sciences and AI.
Key speakers included Massachusetts Technology Collaborative Director Carolyn Kirk and Massachusetts Life Sciences Center President/CEO Kirk Taylor. CallaBio founder and president Dr. Dina Wassaf and Director of Bioinnovation & Partnerships at Northeastern University Dr. Jared Auclair served as the events moderators.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to listen to these regional industry leaders in life sciences and artificial intelligence and ask them questions about how the two seemingly different industries interact, and how they can be the catalyst for innovation with artificial intelligence in the life sciences sector in the years to come.
The goal of the Fireside Chat was for students to gain a better understanding of how AI and life sciences can fit into their own lives. Students also had the opportunity to network with leaders during the event.
“During this event, I learned about the impact of AI on not just life sciences, but on all career paths as a whole,” said Burlington High School student Jad Abouzhara, whose mother hosted the event and invited BHS students to attend.
Students in attendance also previously participated in the school district’s Summer Career Academies, which offer students opportunities to learn about a variety of career pathways, including AI, cyber securities and life sciences.
Three academies were held over the summer; the AI Summer Academy, held through the AI HUB, Cyber Summer Academy, held through MassCyber Center, and Northeastern BATL’s Life Sciences summer program, which provided hands-on lab experience to six students. The AI and Cyber Summer Academies were supported by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative.
“I really enjoyed the fireside chat event. I loved how it gave you time to network and socialize with other people prior to the guest speakers conversing,” said Burlington High School student Tae-son Mun. “All in all, this event was nicely done and I hope they do more like it; I feel as though I learned a lot and I think my fellow students would agree.”
“This was a wonderful opportunity for these students to learn from industry professionals,” said Superintendent Conti. “The event gave students a chance to network and learn more about the implementation and advancement in artificial intelligence, which is becoming more and more relevant across all industries. I would like to thank the event hosts for inviting our students to attend.”
