Bedford Police Awarded $33,357 Municipal Road Safety Grant

BEDFORD — Chief John Fisher is pleased to share that the Bedford Police Department has received a Municipal Road Safety Grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

Bedford Police was awarded $33,357 in funding, which will be used to purchase new speed measurement devices, provide education and community outreach, and training. The department will also be able to fund dedicated traffic enforcement efforts, including distracted driving, crosswalk, pedestrian, and bicycle safety.

Through the initiative, officers will be assigned to high-visibility patrols in an effort to mitigate crashes and maintain safety at crosswalks through enforcement, education, and awareness.

Bedford Police will also be enforcing the vulnerable road user law, which requires motorists to allow up to 4 feet of clearance when passing or use of the adjacent lane, when safe and available.

“This funding will allow our department to support ongoing traffic safety measures and implement new programs to maintain the safety of our drivers and pedestrians on the road,” said Chief Fisher.
