ASHBY — Chief of Police Derek J. Pepple is pleased to announce that the Ashby Police Department is the recipient of a $125,000 grant from the United States Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Public Services (COPS) as part of the Office’s FY2025 Hiring Program (CHP).
The CHP provides funding to law enforcement agencies to hire and/or rehire additional career law enforcement officers in an effort to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts.
The grant, awarded yearly to different police departments all over the country, will be used by the Ashby Police Department to reintroduce a patrolman position that was cut in 2024 due to budget cuts for the department, thus returning the department to full staffing levels.
“We at the Ashby Police Department graciously thank the Department of Justice for selecting Ashby to be one of the recipients of their yearly hiring grant,” said Chief Pepple. “With this grant, we can restore a patrol officer position and return to full staffing, which will enhance our ability to serve the community.”
