SEEKONK — The fifth annual Seekonk Veterans Community Leaf Rake is providing students with a chance to give back to those who have already given so much.
Students from Seekonk High School will team up with parents, teachers and other volunteers from the community to rake the yards of veterans and senior citizens.
The Seekonk Veterans Community Leaf Rake has become a fall tradition for Seekonk High School and the rest of the community. Last year, at a school of only 500 students, the event drew 200 staff, parents and students to participate. This year’s raking event will be held just four days after Veterans Day.
WHEN:
Saturday, Nov. 15, 9 a.m.
WHERE:
At homes throughout the Town of Seekonk.
WHO:
- Volunteer students from Seekonk High School
- Parents of students
- Seekonk High School Assistant Principal Matt Bosh
- Staff from Seekonk High School
WHAT:
For the fifth year, student volunteers will form teams and draw from a predetermined list of homes of veterans and senior citizens in Seekonk, visiting them and offering to rake their leaves. Teams of students are assigned a house ahead of time, and they all meet there at 9 a.m. to begin raking.
The event is being supported by a recent Seekonk High School graduate, Ben Audet, who now has a landscaping business, which will go to all the houses and use vacuum equipment to dispose of all the raked leaves.
MEDIA COVERAGE:
Members of the media who would like to send photographers, TV news crews and other reporters to cover the event should email south@jgpr.net for a list of sites where student volunteer teams will be raking the homes of veterans and senior citizens. Assistant Principal Matt Bosh will also be available for in-person interviews upon request.
