GLOUCESTER — Police Chief Edward Conley and Fire Chief Eric Smith report that Gloucester Police and Fire freed an elderly woman who was pinned underneath a vehicle on Friday morning.
On Friday, Nov. 7, at about 10:48 a.m., Gloucester Police and Fire were dispatched to 99 Prospect St., for reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a motor vehicle
Upon arrival to the scene, crews found an 85-year-old woman with her lower legs pinned under the passenger side of a medium-size sedan.
Gloucester Fire used airbags to lift the vehicle and free the woman.
The woman was transported to the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Gloucester, where she was transported by via medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be serious.
Through an initial investigation, police believe the woman was getting into the vehicle when the sedan’s driver started driving, pinning her underneath. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with Gloucester Police.
The incident remains under investigation by Gloucester Police. The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section has been notified.
