GLOUCESTER — The City of Gloucester and Gloucester Fire Department are welcoming three new firefighters who are currently attending the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.

Recruit Firefighter/EMTs Lucas Trabucco, Jeremy Abreu and Justin Burge are all three attending the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, and upon graduation will join the ranks of Gloucester Fire.

All three were sworn in this week by City Clerk Grace E. Poirier.

Recruit Firefighter/EMT Lucas Trabucco is a Burlington native who has lived in Gloucester for about three years. He worked at Cataldo Ambulance before joining Gloucester Fire, and before that worked as an electrician for four years. Lucas intends to complete paramedic school upon his graduation from the fire academy.

Recruit Firefighter/EMT Jeremy Abreu is a Gloucester native who graduated from Gloucester High School in 2020, and then attended college at the University of Louisville. He decided to pursue a career in EMS and went on to gain his EMT license. Jeremy intends to complete paramedic school upon his graduation from the fire academy.

Recruit Firefighter/EMT Justin Burge grew up in Burlington and served in the U.S. Marine Corps for five years with the 11th Marines and 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. He is looking forward to serving the community in the City of Gloucester. He intends to complete paramedic school upon his graduation from the fire academy.

“I am happy to welcome our new hires to the GFD; we look forward to their contributions to the department and our community,” said Chief Smith. “I also want to thank Mayor Verga for his continued support in maintaining staffing levels within the GFD. This is critical to serving the community while not overburdening our current firefighters, who already work an incredible amount of hours in order to meet our mission.”

“I’m proud to welcome these three new firefighters to the Gloucester Fire Department. Their dedication to public service and commitment to protecting our community truly reflect the best of Gloucester,” said Mayor Greg Verga. “Over the past few years, we’ve worked hard to rebuild staffing levels and continue investing in our public safety departments, making sure our firefighters have the people and resources they need to do their jobs safely. I wish these recruits all the best as they complete their training and begin serving our city.”
