RANDOLPH — Chief Ronald Cassford reports that the Randolph Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at an apartment building on Liberty Place late Tuesday morning.
At approximately 11:15 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 4, Randolph firefighters responded to 20 Liberty Place for a report of a fire in the building. Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke coming from a second-floor window, before firefighters quickly initiated an interior attack and were able to contain the fire to a single apartment unit on the second floor.
Four additional units in the building sustained smoke and water damage as a result of the fire.
No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters. Occupants of the property evacuated the apartment building before firefighters arrived.
A total of seven residents were displaced by the fire. Building management is working with the American Red Cross to assist those affected.
The cause remains under investigation by the Randolph Fire Department.
Mutual aid at the scene was provided by the Holbrook, Milton, Avon and Braintree fire departments. Station coverage was provided by the Weymouth, Stoughton and Quincy fire departments.
While providing coverage, mutual aid crews from Quincy, Weymouth and Stoughton were dispatched to a separate fire call reporting smoke at 187 Oak St. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a large pot of food burning on the stove. The building was evacuated safely, and crews removed the pot and ventilated the home. No injuries were reported in that incident.
The Randolph Fire Department reminds all residents to check their smoke alarms regularly and never leave cooking unattended.
Chief Cassford praised the coordinated response of Randolph firefighters and mutual aid partners in managing two incidents simultaneously without injury.
“Today’s response highlights the teamwork and professionalism of our firefighters and our neighboring departments,” Chief Cassford said. “Thanks to their quick action, the fire at Liberty Place was contained to one unit, further property damage was prevented and everyone in the building was accounted for.”
