LENOX — The Lenox Public Schools are holding food drives at Morris Elementary School and Lenox Memorial Middle and High School to support residents in need during the coming weeks as families across the region face increased food insecurity.
According to the state Division of Transitional Assistance, about 339 Lenox residents are in danger of losing SNAP benefits on Saturday.
District staff, students and families are stepping in to help during this time of increased need.
At Lenox Memorial Middle and High School, a one-day Food Drive will take place Monday, Nov. 3, from 7:15 to 9:30 a.m. Community members may drive up on the right side of the building, where staff and student volunteers will collect donations directly from vehicles. People do not need to park or exit their vehicles.
The most-needed items include applesauce, canned beans, canned chicken, canned tuna or salmon, canned ham or SPAM, canned vegetables and fruit, cooking oil, crackers, dried herbs and spices, granola bars, instant mashed potatoes, nuts, peanut butter, rice, soup, stew, chili, cereal and instant oatmeal.
At Morris Elementary School, families may send in nonperishable food items with students beginning Monday, Nov. 3. Items can also be dropped off at the main office during school hours. Donated food will be made available to Lenox families who request support.
Morris families and staff who would like to receive food can contact the main office to receive a confidential link. Their information will be sent directly to School Adjustment Counselors Cherilyn Zaretsky and Beth Persing, who will contact families privately to coordinate support.

“As a district, we always want to stand with our families, especially when many may have needs greater than usual,” Superintendent Dr. William Collins said. “These drives are one small way our schools can help make sure our neighbors feel supported. We are thankful for every student, staff member and family who takes part and helps make a difference.”
