Shaker Lane Elementary Running on Fun

LITTLETON — Shaker Lane Elementary recently held the school’s first Fun Run and fundraising event for students in Pre-K through Grade 2.

Students in Pre-K kicked off the event on Thursday, Oct. 16, followed by students in Kindergarten through Grade 2 who participated on Friday, Oct. 17. The Fun Run was held in two locations, the lower baseball field and the preschool playground area.

This event was organized by PTA members Anne Spiegel and Emily Kane and supported by many parent volunteers.

During the event, students spent 20 minutes running or walking around an obstacle course set up by the PTA. The day was filled with laughter and smiles as students tried to complete as many laps as they could, while wearing custom Fun Run t-shirts. Students received popsicles after they completed the run.

All students were encouraged to register for the event and collect donations from family and friends.

Staff members also created fun videos for marketing purposes that highlighted the event.

The event, while promoting being active, also served as an opportunity for the community to come together to support students.

Students raised nearly $48,000 from the event. The proceeds will support programs, field trips, classroom supplies, resources, and services that will enrich and maximize education for Shaker Lane students.

There were schoolwide prize incentives as well. These included staff members dressed up in silly costumes for the day for the students, a special classroom activity day, a Glow Dance Party, and the grand prize of a schoolwide celebration assembly.

“The Fun Run was a great way to bring our students together and participate in a fun activity outside of the classroom while also being active,” said Principal Michelle Kane.
