STONEHAM — The Stoneham Police Department arrested and charged a man with carrying a loaded firearm without a license as a result of a proactive motor vehicle stop on Tuesday evening.
LOUIS SOUSA, age 33, of MEDFORD, was arrested and charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm Without a Firearms Identification Card (FID)
- Improper Storage of a Firearm
- Possession of Ammunition Without an FID
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
SOUSA also had an active warrant for his arrest.
On Tuesday, Oct. 21, at approximately 5:54 p.m., Officer Stephen Chatelle was on patrol in the area of Main and Williams streets when he ran the license plate of a vehicle. Officer Chattelle learned that the registered owner of the vehicle, SOUSA, was wanted on an active warrant out of Somerville District Court.
Officer Chatelle stopped the vehicle nearby, confirmed that SOUSA was driving, and took SOUSA into custody on the warrant.
A subsequent inventory search of the vehicle located a loaded Ruger handgun.
The arrest and seizure of an illegally possessed firearm was the second this week for Stoneham Police. Another illegally possessed firearm was also seized as a result of an unrelated investigation.
SOUSA was arraigned Wednesday in Woburn District Court.
“I would like to commend the proactive police work of Officer Chatelle, who’s keen eye made Stoneham safer by taking a dangerous illegally possessed firearm off the streets,” said Chief O’Connor.
These are allegations. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty.
