TOWNSEND — Superintendent Brad Morgan and Hawthorne Brook Middle School (HBMS) Principal Chantele Olmstead are pleased to share that Grade 8 science teacher Rebecca Audette has been selected by the Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers (MAST) as Middlesex County’s recipient of the 2025 Science Educator of the Year Award.
Chosen annually by the MAST, the award recognizes science educators from thirteen Massachusetts counties who are nominated by faculty, staff, or community members. Award recipients portray leadership in promoting the advancement of high-quality science education among fellow teachers and students.
Audette was nominated for the award by retired North Middlesex educator Marilyn Richardson, who taught science at Hawthorne Brook Middle School (HBMS) for about 30 years.
“We are very proud to have such a prestigious award bestowed upon one of our very own teachers,” said Principal Olmstead. “Ms. Audette, who also leads our extracurricular Math Club, is a strong example of leadership and innovation, and we are pleased to have her as a resource to our faculty and student body.”
In addition to teaching, Audette coaches the HBMS Robotics Club and coordinates the annual STEAM day.
She is also a Science Performance Assessment Ambassador for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. In this role, she works with science educators across the state to develop a shared vision of equitable science instruction and assessment practices to fit the needs of teachers and students. Audette is also a co-director of the Middlesex County division of MAST and is the Membership Chair.
Audette will be recognized during the annual MAST dinner banquet and awards ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
“Ms. Audette’s recognition by the Association is a strong indicator of how much she has grown during her time teaching at Hawthorne Brook,” said Superintendent Morgan. “We look forward to seeing how she continues to grow our STEAM education.”
