GLOUCESTER — The Gloucester Fire Department and the City of Gloucester are welcoming two new experienced and well-trained firefighters who recently joined the department as lateral transfers.
Firefighter/Paramedic Nicholas Meyers and Firefighter/EMT Tyler Rogers were both sworn in Tuesday by Gloucester City Clerk Grace E. Poirier.
Firefighter/Paramedic Meyers is a Gloucester native and Gloucester High School graduate who is working toward a college degree in Fire Science. He has previously worked for three years at a private EMS company, for five years as a call firefighter in Manchester-by-the-Sea, and for three and a half years as a full-time firefighter at Amesbury Fire.
Firefighter/EMT Rogers is a Gloucester native and Gloucester High School graduate who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Boston College. He previously worked for two and a half years at the Amesbury Fire Department.
Both firefighters are graduates of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, and both firefighters previously served with the Amesbury Fire Department.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome two Gloucester residents, Nick and Tyler, on board the Gloucester Fire Department,” said Chief Smith. “We are grateful to the Amesbury Fire Department and Chief Robert Serino, as well as Amesbury Mayor Kassandra Gove, for allowing these local residents to serve the City they call home.”
In addition to these two new hires, which fill vacancies on the department, there are plans to bring on three more new hires in early November, with several more hirings planned for early 2026.
“I’m thrilled to welcome two new firefighters to the Gloucester Fire Department. I am especially proud that both are Gloucester residents, it speaks volumes about our community’s dedication to public service,” said Mayor Greg Verga. “Bringing on these new firefighters builds on our ongoing work to strengthen our public safety departments, including improvements to equipment, staffing, and services. I want to thank Amesbury Mayor Kassandra Gove for her support in facilitating these transfers, and I look forward to seeing our new firefighters thrive as part of the team.”
